Hopefully Mark goes out over the summer and puts the Irish 10km record down to the 27.30 region and then goes on to break the Irish Marathon record and then tells John Treacy and any of the other doubters to go f*** themselves and give him the respect he deserves.
Interesting artical on Carroll. Maybe he was taken out of context but I would say he slammed the US.

If you are going to train here, use US based physicians and US based colleges/coaches than show a little respect. If indeed he was offered a big contract for becoming a citzen which I don't believe is true he should at least take it as a compliment instead of acting like he was requested to do some sinful act.
Ireland drops him and he still allows himself to be screwed by standing on his soap box and saying that he will represent Ireland this summer. Seems to me Ireland has found a new favorite son in Cragg and if Carroll was smart he would take the 11,000 euro and anything else he can bc is money making days are limited.
Again, he could have been taken out of context by me but something about this artical bothers me.

How's that? Here's all he said about the U.S:
"But I turned it down then and I have no intention of running for the US."
Americans must be pretty insecure to construe that as any kind of "slam." He's Irish, so wants to run for Ireland. So what?

Changing your nationality or your religion for money is like prostitution, except prostitutes only sell their body not their very identity.
Its been a big deal in Ireland of late that he was supposed to take up US citizenship and represent the US becaues he got dropped from his grant. All he said was he wasn't doing it. Hardly a slam.
Show Mark Carrol some respect. He said nothing to get in a patriotic huff about.
Ireland loves Cragg and they discarded Carroll. That is fact! Tracey doesn't see a medal in Carroll's future and now that he pulled out of the marathon he's history.
He's saying he could have sold out and become a US citizen to piss them off. The US never made him an offer I'm calling BS!
I'm also calling BS on the guy who says Ireland isn't funding Cragg. The guy just came home with a gold medal. Don't be a idiot! Ireland is taking care of Cragg and their 400m runner.

You seem confused here. He was getting 11,000 Euro before and now he is getting 0. Same for Sonia O'Sullivan. She made substantially more than Carroll and was also dropped to 0. Thus, they were considering running for other countries to make a living.
You make me ashamed to be an American citizen (not "citzen" as you wrote) and not simply because of your poor spelling (By the way, "article" is not a difficult word to spell for most people). Your analysis of Carroll is remarkably simple-minded and reveals a disturbing level of patriotism and insecurity on your part. Carroll is not insulting the US and he definitely isn't embarassing American distance runners anymore than we've already embarsassed ourselves on the world scene. If you'll recall, earlier this winter, Mr. Carroll put America's own "new favorite son" in his place by beating Alan Webb in an indoor 3000m race. Whether or not Mr. Carroll was offered a chance to represent the United States, can you really blame him for saying that he wouldn't want to do so? Why would he want to compete for a mediocre price on a mediocre team if its not even his home country?
I'm not an American and english is my second language. Any more questions? I really got you all bent out of shape but at least it's better than reading about how you all tear apart a universtiy coach(Oregon) who the athletes seemed to like.
"You make me ashamed to be an American citizen."
-if that bothers you that much, then there's no telling what you'll do when you figure out that there's countless homeless families living in your city, hundreds of babies aborted in your town, and more unproperly educated kids than you can even count right under your nose.
listen up here are facts.the grants this year given out in ireland have caused up roar. Now Cragg never attempted to apply for a grant.Sources close to Cragg say he will get the grant but so what,he deserves it.James Mclroy got a grant and then ran for GB.Atleast Craggs heart is in it.
irealnd in no shape or form have discarded Mark,he is an icon in Irisih athletics.if Mark Carroll said the USA offered him a deal and funding then I believe him.Why wpuld he make up such a bs story.mate u cant call bull shit on my saying Cragg didnt get funding as I know he didnt, but he will recieve funding in the future.
Sonia actually turned down funding a few years ago.
Hardly anyone in Ireland knows Cragg and that's a fact! Has the guy even every been to Ireland?

Yes: What the hell is wrong with you?
I do not see any slam here.
The question I have is: Who supposedly offered him money to change nationalities? USATF? I doubt that. A shoe company? More likely. But even that I find a little odd.
An agent? Maybe, but not sure how that helps much since he is not likely to medal and many people would say he is not really an American? Plus, it is more time consuming to become a US citizen. We are not Qatar.
with all due respect, you totally misread that. You are way off. Have u ever talked to carroll? he respects the U.S and the people he trains with. The main point in the story is:
"Running for Ireland means a lot more to me than 11,000 Euro"
All he said is that he was offered a contract to run for the US and declined. This highlights the love he has for his home country and that he is not a sell out. In my books this commands more respect.
cragg never applied for the irish grant, he flew back to the states after winning the euro 3000. you need to apply to be applicable.
i have a question about that article: when did 'rubbish' become a verb?
