The calculator said what it said. Centro beat 3:26, 3:28, 3:29 guys, but you think his run didn't indicate that ability. O.K. I guess that even though they were with him in the last lap, they decided that they weren't going to go all out. Or, they ALL were just having a bad day and worth only 3:50 on that day.
Ryun was a once in a generation talent, maybe better than that. Try 36.5 close on a dirt track in a 3:38 or 2:46 close in a 3:33.1 in 90+ degrees on a track hardly in pristine condition. I just ran on an all weather track resurfaced poorly--I slid back a bit on each step because the surface was slippery. In high school I ran on a cinder track and the slide was considerably greater and the surface often chewed up. If you've never run on such tracks, you'd have no idea their effect.
