Agreed he was hostile but as a current hs runner (in arizona) the bib and chip have always gone together

I'm in California. Never had it come attached.
Can anyone at Mt. Sac confirm if bib was attached to the chip?
We're names printed on the bib?
Seems like a simple mix up.

If you were actually in Cali you would know the answers to your questions. Bibs and chips are a matched set these days.
Since criminal defense was one my hobbies, way back when you could argue to re-instate the time and the names switched. The condition was
the chips were never collected and are now the owner of the bib owner yet the bib number was assigned at it is up to the race coordinators to sort that data out.
More than likely an RFID chip. And the officials need a public tongue lashing between the toes by rigorous great danes.
meets i've been at chips and bibs come in separate piles. not sure how it was done Fri/Sat at MSAC. so kid could easily been given the wrong chip... or more likely, the kid ( we'll call him kid A) is like many HS kids - not detail oriented - and he lost his chip somewhere. He probably told the coach about 5 mins prior to race time that he couldn't find his chip so the coach just grabbed the chip of a kid (kid B) who didn't show up for the race and told kid A to put it on his shoe.
Coach probably figured he could sort it out after the race not realizing the meet officials were going to make a big deal out of it. Of course, had kid A run 17:37 no one would have known or cared. I'd bet that happens all the time in fact. =)

The bibs were in one stack and the chips were in another stack. It was the responsibility of the coach to have the chips and bibs match and given to the correct person. It is possible the the kids put down their bibs/chips in the team area and the had them get mixed up. If they are going to DQ for this then they should also DQ kids and teams that ran in the wrong race.
Hilarious. These officials should be ashamed of themselves for this RIDICULOUS dq. At least these officials probably aren't getting paid. Worth the money.

An made for disaster approach. All Mt SAC results should be tossed. Most marathons avoid chip and bib messes like this. How is that possible? Why does Mt SAC have a bib-chip free-for-all? Lame.

No one seemed to believe me but this is the way it's done for every meet I have been too in CA the last 17 years.
Someone who actually knows the story:
Coach made an error in submitting the names for the online registration, he clicked the name below Erik Gonzalez on the team roster. The change was made and the results were official. No trying to make a malicious change or hide a result or anything.
Chips and bibs are handed out separated. Bibs really have no use except to identify the runners for spectators.
Too many people on here have no idea of the situation but make broad statements about how it should be or how it was. The kid ran a great race and ended up the fastest time of the entire meet, even though Div 1/2 sweeps races had better conditions on Saturday.

chill, friend. my intent was not to imply that what i wrote is exactly how it went down. my intent was to imply that kids sometimes lose their chips... nothing malicious meant towards you or your athlete
not trying to take anything away from your kid... clearly he ran great and it should not be an issue if he had the right chip on his shoe or not. congrats!
Did not mean to specifically reply to your post, just happened to be the the one I was reading when I decided to reply.
Not my kid. I don't actually coach anymore. I just happened to know the details and most of the parties involved.
