In my 10 years of coaching, I probably made a total of 200k but it was a great gig for me as I could still do LRC and was young and unmarried.
And had a nice trust fund to live off of

Part time assistant (really the xc head and track assistant) + part time running store
$14k + around $10-12k = ~$25k
It's manageable, but a bit of a struggle living in a more expensive area of the country.
Single, a few roommates, nothing too crazy for student loan debt.
Lots of cheap dinners, save some money by walking to and from work. Bike to the running store and only get running shoes from reps when they offer.
Only made $6k coaching last year, so I'm confident that it will SLOWLY get better over time.
I used to be a D3 head coach. Topped out at $32K with benefits after 10 years.
Then I decided to become a HS teacher. Now I make $72K with full benefits plus another $5K for head XC coach, $8K for track head coach, $3K for soccer assistant coach, and I get $5K for helping the football team as a trainer/assistant.
So now I am making roughly $93K with full benefits. If you are thinking about coaching, high school is the way to go.

Any advice/thoughts?

Seriously. I'd be interested to hear how some of you justify this for yourselves. You are intelligent, hard working, dedicated, competent individuals with a track record of setting/achieving goals....yet you are working for peanuts. I mean this all in a good way, not trying to be a troll, you are all just leaving tons of money on the table.

There are more important things than money. Such as: actually enjoying what you spend the majority of your time doing.
