Ok this is sad that Dana Carvey and Robin Williams may be faster than I am....geez going out for a 10 now...

Another runner--Hootie and the Blowfish (blond long-haired guy) ran a 34:20 10K for shits and grins while traveling on the road with his band. not exactly in hard training mode either. Williams did pop a 1:58 at Redwood HS. Another name from that talent pool at Redwood is steeplechase runner Sam Skinner, who was at Cal in the '80s.
Come on Rubio. Chris Carey is no relation to Dana. Its Scott Carvey. You know guitartist with Mr. Green and the men from Modesto. Those with good memories will remember the halloween party that Dana Carvey played drums with the band. Lets get the facts straight.
Now lets start working on the $500.00 challenge.
Coach Lansberry
Just another agreement on the Robin Williams thing. That guy is a pimp for XC and distance running in general.
As far as Dana Carvey goes, I would be surprised to learn that he was a drug user, so I don't think that was the problem. He just had serious blockage that needed to be taken care of.
Several years back around when Carvey was doing his Ross Perot impersonation(1988-1992) I remember seeing in Runner's World that he ran a 4:20 or something 1600. Back then every month they gave a two page spread on some celebrity who also ran. I also remember seeing Paula Zahn, Alexandra Paul from American Flyers and Baywatch who was a decent triathlete, and some guy from Jethro Tull.
RW also did a piece on George Wendt (Norm from Cheers), and apparently he ran 3 miles a day during that show. He's now even bigger, so who knows if he still runs or not.
Coach Lansberry,
I know Scott Carvey because I paid for the plane ticket to get him to Aggie camp a few years back. The last time Dana played drums for the Men from Modesto was at the 1995 USATF (World Trials Meet) in Sacto. I remember vividly the DOC bowing to him reciting "I'm not worthy" at some brew pub that doesn't exist anymore. I introduced myself to Dana and noticed he was sick as a dog. I asked him "what the **** happened to you?" He said he had the flu but was committed to playing in the band. A true porfessional.
Speaking of the Men from Modesto, the next schedule unofficial stop is at the Live Oak Tavern (picture the bar from The Blues Brothers located between 2 white trash trailer parks and you're getting a good visual on the place - it's perfect) following the coming USA Fall XC Championships in Rocklin on 12/14 (http://www.resultzone.com/xcnatls/). Don't know if Dana will be there, but I wouldn't say he won't be there either. I can guarantee his brother Scott will be there though.
Better mark 12/14 on your calendar Coach. First Pabst on me.
Joe
Someone with the juice at USATF ought to get Robin Williams Luke whoever, and Dana Carvey front row seats to every NCAA and USATF cross and national meet hosted. Talk about free TV exposure/advertising and a chance to hype up a flundering sport in the US. Their TV presence would enhance USATF's low profile tons, akin to the star-studded Laker courtside seats w/ Jack Nicholson, Diane (the blonde bimbo) et al.
Could you imagine Robin Williams and Dana Carvey doing color commentary at a track meet? I'm already cracking up just thinking about it. That would be some funny stuff...
It would be if Robin Williams were actually funny anymore. I think he's actually a better actor than a comedian, but that opinion has nothing to do with running, so what the hell am I doing writing it?

when has that ever stopped anybody on this board?
Thirtysomething,
Good point. Actually I was just trying to insulate myself from being ripped on.
Anyone would be better than Carol Lewis.
i thought that carvey did some steeple at some college in california
Don't even get me started on Carol Lewis. She and Dwight Stone are the worst T&F commentators ever!

Carol blows, but what's wrong with Stones?
Whats wrong w/stones you ask? Jesus, everytime there is a race over one lap long he's friggn' talking over it to tell us the "Latest about some high/tripple jumper who has long legs and he likes their ass...ummm...I mean form." or some crap like that. Like we all have short attention spans and can't watch a race w/out listening to him jabbering on about erelavent crap! Howard stern would be better for christ sakes.
Are those times right? I though Passsanesi won state but in a faster time?
I believe Dana ran a 9:33ish steep for College of San Mateo (JC). Passanisi ran 9:05 for 3200 not 2 miles, and finally, Brett Gotcher should be on that list (near the top).
John Popper of Blues Traveler ran the 400 IH in 51.12 while at Tulane. "Mama" Cass Elliott ran a 4:56.7 mile (indoors), and at the same meet, Ella Fitzgerald triple-jumped 45' 7 1/2". Anyone got any others?
I heard Meat Loaf was State High School champ in Texas for the Decathlon.
BREAKING: Leonard Korir not going to Paris! 11 Universality athletes get in ahead of him!
Hicham El Guerrouj is back baby! Runs Community Mile in Oxford
What is the most stupid running advice you've ever heard?🤣(It can be funny)
Are Asics, Saucony, and New Balance envious of Brooks, Hoka ,and On?
