USATF just moved the LA Grand Prix men's diamond-league quality 5k "A" race from 5/18 Sat afternoon to 5/17 Fri @ 9:30pm PDT, closing out that evening's distance carnival with a bang:
Thus, confirmed early entrants Cheptegai, Kiplimo, Barega, Ahmed, Hocker, and Teare will have perfect under-the-lights conditions to chase the 13:05 Oly Q -- with much quicker times likely in their sights. (Projected 9-10pm weather on 5/17: 60-62 deg F, no wind, 60-70% humidity.)
In addition, quite an impressive entry list has developed for the "B" race, include sub-13-man Edwin Kergat and World Indoor Champs 3k 5th place finisher Olin Hacker:
Noticeably absent are top US pros Joe, Grant and Woody.
Unless they are late entrants in the "A" race, likely they will wait until the Portland Track Festival on 6/8-9 to open their outdoor seasons (since the Pre Classic's longest men's race is the Bowerman Mile).
Or, not race at all until the US Oly Trials.
