I heard on another message board, one that I shall not speak it's name, and someone said Dana Carvey, or maybe better non as Garth on this board, was a 9:20 duece runner. But however no one could support this with evidence. The best the could do was some high school result page w/ A dana carvey running a 4:27 mile. I knew he was a runner but was he in fact a 9:20 dueceman?

I have heard similar stories. I heard he ran in the 9:20s in high school but I did not get a specific time. I know that he was still a runner while working on SNL but I don't know what he does now after his open heart surgery of a few years ago.
In case you didn't remember that story, he had some heart disease and went in for a bypass and apparently the surgeons focused on the wrong vessel to the heart because they said afterwards that he had "unusual anatomy". They had to go back in later and do what was intended.
Amazing that a thin active runner guy as young as Dana Carvey is had that heart trouble. Guess he really got the bad genes in that department.
If I had the desire I'd look up the story for you because I'm sure it's out there, but I just got back from the Ohio State Fair and I'm tired and hot and not up for doing any work today on my day off.
While I don't know any of his track times, Dana was interviewed in the Pre flick 'Fire on The Track', telling about the time he met Pre and couldn't talk or anything due to hero worship. It took me by surprise.
Not sure about his two-mile time, but I did see Carvey interviewed within the last two weeks and he said, quite proudly, that he was a 4:27 miler in high school
I saw an interview with Mr. Carvey after he had his heart surgery and he stated he ran 10 miles a day.
Here's the top 100 or so from the CCS all time list. Dana's not at 9:21 or under BUT I do know he was all league in XC in the mid 70's. I have friends who ran against him and still know him well including his JC coach Bob Rush. My guess, he was a 9:20 high, low 9:30 guy. If you really want to know, send me an email and I'll ask guys who ran against him in HS and JC. Here's the list. #13 is a stud.

another celebrity that ran in high school was robin williams. robin ran a 1:58 half mile back in the day, probably on cinders. not a bad time at all.
Isn't Kingery from the list the high-school marathon record holder? BTW Whoever compiled the list is unkind to call some of the runners "fat." I'm sure they were doing their best.

Robin Williams, yes he ran for Redwood HS. Sub 2:00 for 880y. Other luminaries from that school include Hal Shultz, Rod Berry, Ned Overend, Pete Sweeney, Bryan Tracy.
Others from that CCS 2 mile list include Kingery (yes HS marathon record holder), Guisto, Mike McCollum (VP of PowerBar before they sold to Nestle). 2 guys who aren't on that list but are on the mile list who did a ton after HS were Mike Ryan from Wilcox HS and Ron Larrieu from Palo Alto HS (?). I'm thinking Chris Carey at 9:12 in 1968 is Dana's brother as they both ran for Carlmont.

dont know much about Robin Williams running career. But I did see a recent profile of Lance Armstrong that described a scene where the two of them went cycling together. The article noted that Williams was surprisingly fit and kept up with Lance (who no doubt was not riding easy because this was some sort of charity event).

Williams is a pretty serious and knowledgeable amateur cyclist. I've seen him on his bike in the Presidio in San Francisco...at least I think it was him...about 5"4, 200lbs and very hairy.
He rides in Armstrong's Ride for the Roses every year.

Actor Luke Wilson (Dog Park, Home Fries, Blue Streak, Soul Survivors, etc.) went to St. Mark's HS in Dallas while I was still coaching there and did a pretty respectable 1:54.99 FAT.
For us non-Cal guys, what is the CCS? An area? District? Conference?

I figured he was the runner's link to the silver screen... however, with this new information surfacing about Luke Wilson, other avenues may be pursued...
I'm surprised that nobody has yet to accuse Dana Carvey of drug use. Having a heart attack at that young of an age, I'm surprised that nobody had made the connection... I bet he was all doped up on the same stuff that the russians used...
If you want to see a young Williams running, then "The World According to Garp it is."
He is oft quoted as being an XC fanatic.
