Probably a nice appearance fee for her and fits in with moving up to Ironman, but I would expect a 2:40+ or 2:50+ without more specific marathon training.
No way she is swimming in NYC in November!
move on from triathlon to road running? Because running is so much more prestigious to your precious equivalence tables.
move up to ironman? huh? have you seen her ride a bike? would take her years to get comfortable on a tt bike. More money in Ironman? Huh? She's a gold frickin medalist. ITU pays better anyway.
You people are ridiculous.
You know where the real money and prestige is? Doing what you are amazing at, winning a few gold medals, few world championships, and ending your career as the GOAT-OAT (greatest of all time, of all time) which she has the potential to do.
2:38 seems to be the sweet spot for great runners not fully committed to the marathon
For how long will she cry at the finish?
The letsrun audience has absolutely no idea how much money Gwen was already raking in from race money and sponsors. WAY more than they could imagine and it's only gonna get bigger with that gold medal on board now.
I predict 2:40. Unless Nicola Spirig of Switzerland runs it too. Then, I predict 2:50ish or so because the two of them would come to a complete standstill on Fifth Ave over who is going to take the lead.

Sort of wrong, just north of $200k in prize money last year. I'd imagine sponsors probably match that.
Gwen will do well in the NYC Marathon. Some pure runners here appear jealous that a triathlete is "invading" their territory. Grow up, you dung lickers.
2:30s. She's got the base and the wheels. The key is building up to the long runs in a relatively short period of time. But have done it myself, went from 33s to 2:31 in < 1 year, just 10 weeks focused marathon training following a season of moderate running (50 mpw) with cross training.

She said she may compete in the tri world championships in sept and do it with her triathlon training.
It looks like it will be big pay day for a glorified workout for her. It does not sound like she is targeting it to see what could really do to max out her talent in a marathon.
yeah, I take the 2:30s back, if she isn't going to focus on the training. 2:40 or a little under would be a great day, but more like low to mid 2:40s for NYC this fall.
I don't know much about Gwen Jorgensen but I've seen triathletes running and it isn't pretty. I imagine she'll wear a fanny pack with at least 8 gels and a massive bottle holder to carry 36oz of water, not to mention compression socks and a GPS watch as big as her forearm.

That's better.
I think Jorgensen will struggle unless she has an undiscovered knack for marathon running. A marathon is really quite challenging even for an Ironman, let alone a regular triathlete. For example, Mark Allen made a serious effort to qualify for the 1992 Olympic marathon trials when running 2:40 IM marathons and failed miserably.
10k times don't always translate into marathon times. I know plenty of sub 33 min runners who can't run a sub 3.
OTOH I ran 2:38 while barely cracking 34 for 10K. I could never touch her times fresh, much less after a swim/bike. The big question is whether her limited running mileage (35-40 mpw) will be offset by her other aerobic training, or if she successfully brings that mileage up. She certainly is lean enough to run a decent 26.2. Reminds me of a female Mark Allen.

If you don't respect the marathon, you're not going to run to your potential. I don't know what she can run for 10k on the track, but if she is a 32 flat 10k runner, then she would certainly have the ability to run low 2:30s or better with excellent marathon training.
Gwen made at least $278,000 in prize money last year. She has some amazing sponsors as well...particularly Holowesko. This year will be less because of the focus on Rio, but bonus and sponsor $ will easily make up for it.
