If she ran this race in the middle of a 125 mile week then she is a threat for the Gold Medal.
If she ran this race on a 100 mile or less week then she will be lucky to finish the race in Rio.
With just shy of 2 months this until the Olympic Marathon this week NEEDS to be a monster week. As does the past 2 and the next 3 or 4.
found someone who THINKS critically. You obviously know nothing about Operation Northwoods or military psychological operations. Hagealien Dialectic and Cognitive Dissonance is not something most entertained, distracted Americans or world public are thinking about. Instead, the kooks are looked as 'conspiracy buffs' as the late George Carlin put it. Sad, we have a public more concerned being entertained and distracted then THINKING.

I'm surprised with how much smarter you are than Jerry.

In the FloTrack article it said that she didn't back off at all going into her HM 3 weeks ago, but this week was the first week she dipped under a hundred miles a week since the Rio build up
She typically does 125+mpw so I don't think one week at 90-99 miles would really be considered much of a taper
Shalane is strong, if she can handle the heat and is truly peaking right at Rio, she has a shot at a medal

There is only room for one taper in a marathon build up. She will find herself lethargic in Rio.

It truly was not meant to be. I can assure you that the Boston bombing was the last thing on my mind. Apologies.

Well good thing it wasn't a taper then. She said they took only the two days before the race a bit easier/shorter. That's not a taper.
Shalane will pull her second bronze at the rio marathon
Shalane ran a fast 10k 8 weeks before she ran 2:21:14 at Berlin in 2014.
http://www.letsrun.com/news/2016/06/pure-brilliance-shalane-flanagan-runs-3052-break-american-record-dominate-b-10k-final-race-rio/The two women that won the gold and silver at the 2008 Olympics are now suspect. Tirunesh Dibaba was the gold medalist. Elvan Abeylegesse from Turkey won the silver medal but has since been banned for doping.
There is a case to be made that Shalane Flanagan (IRISH) is the 'real' Gold Medalist in the 10,000m at the 2008 Olympics.
Amy Hastings (could be Irish or English) Cragg will also count as IRISH, since she is married to the speedy Irish leprechaun Alistair Cragg.
Both of these speedy IRISH leprechauns train in Flagstaff, Arizona.

That is a surprise.
"Peaking too early" or "Too fast too early" are both myths. Like the Loch Ness monster, Big foot and clean Russian Master's runners.....No such thing.
Now piss poor coaching......that is a real thing. Shalene will be fine.

Ray,
I have respected you for two decades and appreciated your work with WLDR back in the day. This is the first time that you have ever said something that I see as 100% wrong. I was ready too early for my marathon in both the 2000 and 2004 trials. It was because I was too aggressive with speed work when I should have been doing strength work. All of my best marathons were when I was in training mode from 12 weeks out right up to the final 2 week taper. I understand that I am a study of one but I had a wonderful legendary coach that would agree that too fit too early is not a recipe for success in the marathon.
A 30:51 road time is probably a 30:15 track time. She is in monster shape.

Just absolutely ripping. 30:51 this morning...too fit, too early? Or, might Rio be her finest moment?
You guys kill me. If she ran an average race you would be screaming SHALANE IS DONE
If she runs well you cry SHALANE IS PEAKING TOO SOON
I think Shalane has earned the trust that she knows what she's doing at this point. What I see the 30:51 as is that she could have dropped sub 30:30 if she had peaked specifically for this race. Shalane is a beast and as long as she's still healthy in August and the weather is a bit better than it was in LA, she's a legit medal contender.

I think not. Differential is less. Maybe 30:30 track....maybe. Lots of runners have faster road than track times ((psychology? The bends?)
Wonder what happened to the poor chap pictured after the incident being pushed in a wheelchair with his femur bone sticking out. Did he make it back ok to the NSA Halloween costume closet?
Too bad the Rio women's marathon will be won by some little known Chinese woman doped to the gills with who-knows-what.
Shalane is my favorite runner but she races the marathon like a wuss.
She is always aggressive for every distance but is way too tentative in the marathon. I hope she races Rio like a baller instead of sitting in a pack for 20 miles.
Meanwhile, Biwott tears up a half, and he's the Gold medal winner (will be).
And Rupp has lost his speed, and will hurt his marathon chances with his fifth in the 10.
So which is it? Is running well at ANY point prior to the Olympic games ideal?
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
