Holy Christ, most of you should stick to talking about running, a sport you may at least have some clue about.
The idea that any version of Tyson would beat a prime Ali is laughable. Anybody who has even an ounce of boxing knowledge would tell you that.
I would love to believe that, but it's just not true. Boxing was a different sport in ALI's time.

Yea, it was a sport with numerous good fighters and 2-3 exceptional fighters. Unlike Tyson's era until today when there are journeymen and stiffs with only the occasional good fighter. Boxing started going downhill when too many sanctioning bodies got involved. The HW division is nowhere near what it was.

Tyson was just 23 years old on Feb 11, 1990. He was at his peak. If he trained badly or used poor strategy, that's on him. He lost to Douglas in his prime. I saw that fight on PPV and still have the videotape.
If he trained badly then he wasn't in his prime. That is what prime means. At your best. It does not mean your age. Sure, it might have been his own fault but that isn't the question. The question is "who would win in their prime?".[/quote]
Uh, no, that doesn't make sense. If a 23-year-old fighter trains badly for whatever reason -- new trainer, doesn't take opponent seriously -- he's NOT in his prime? But for the next fight if he DOES train well then he IS in his prime? A fighter's prime doesn't come and go like that. How well/badly a fighter trains doesn't determine whether he is or isn't in his prime.
Watch early Tyson fights. Watch the Douglas fight. Big difference in execution due to not having D'Amato/Rooney.

Or it may be because his early fights were against a bunch of tomato cans whereas Douglas was more than a stooge set up to fail.
