I hear this phrase bandied about quite often in the workplace - "Somebody threw somebody else under the bus." - but I'm not quite sure what it means. It often seems that people are considered "thrown under the bus" if they get blamed for something.
So...if someone gets blamed, and they actually should be shouldering the responsibility, are they being "thrown under the bus" if they get identified for making a mistake?
Not trying to prop myself up, but I hold myself accountable for all my work. If I screw up and someone calls me on it, then I sack up and take the blame like a man. Likewise, I have no problem identifying someone else if they've made a crucial mistake. It's not "throwing them under the bus," it's simply identifying the root cause of a problem so it can be corrected and avoided going forward.
Should I be more diplomatic, or should others be more willing to swallow their pride and accept responsibility for their mistakes?
