Greetings once again:
Has anyone ever had this? What did you do to speed up the healing process? I dont overpronate, that is somewhat odd. Anyone know of exercises to strengthen this?
Much appreciated!

Bump
BUMP again
hey thats what i got right now. had to take quite a bit of time off b/c i was an idiot and kept running through it...
if it still hurts, then just aqua jog. no bike, no nothing.
once you feel better, then start incorporating bike into the routine (and eventually elliptical--but it personally hurt me to do elliptical).
as for exercises, here is a great website. there are illustrations too.

good luck!
Thanks, I really appreciate this!

take aleve bro... im dealing with post tib and running a marathon
My symptoms are so bad, I cannot run at all. It was a pretty sudden onset, I had pain in the summer with it and rested, got phys therapy. When I run and land on my forefoot it hurts really bad!
Nick
I would try the things on that web site, since most people are helped by them. For the high school boys I work with, it is often just a case of getting the right shoes - more arch support sometimes fixes it. The post tib tendon travels down behind the ankle bone and then attaches under the arch. If you are over pronating, arch flattening out too much, you over-stretch it and the muscle starts to tear away from the tibia. You probably have a VERY painful spot on the inside/ back of the tibia, about halfway between your ankle and knee, eh? This is where the tearing is occuring. Many of us distance runners have calcified lumps there from years of this stuff going on.
My own experience is different than most. I suffered badly for a few years. It was killing me. None of the usual treatments helped at all. Then, I saw a really great chiropractor who did some tests and determined that my tibia was not seated properly in the knee (it was too far back) and thus the tibia could not function correctly. He did an adjustment, I felt a distinct, painless click deep in my knee. From then on, I felt different, even just walking around. I needed a few more adjustments in the following months, but this was the cure.
I know it sounds crazy, and I never would have believed it, but it worked for me. I have no problems with it now.
A few years back I thought I had posterior tib tendonitis. The physiotherapist and sports med dr. both thought thats what it was. But just to be sure I had a bone scan and it was a stress fracture. I'd check it out.
Good advice, Running Dude.
Actually, this post tib problem (also known as Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome) can lead to tibial stress fracture. It puts a lot of stress on the tib. I got a bone scan also, but mine apparently hadn't cracked yet. It sure felt broken, though.
Thanks for all the help. One question, Would a stress fracture happen all at once. It occured as I kicked in the last .2 of a 10k. Just a 'pop' feeling, hurts right under the navicular. I had ultra sound and ionophorsis (msp) on it today. I think it could perhaps be due to tight calve muscles as well. What is others insight into this? I wonder though about the stress fracture, but I had the same thing occur in June of 04 and within 10 days I was running again, but this go around it feels weaker. I even run in the light weight shoes, barefoot a lot. I under pronate as well. Never any wear on the inside of the shoes.

For 2 months I listened to people who told me I had posterior tibial tendonitis. For the first 2-3 weeks I continued running! In that time, what was initially a misdiagnosed stress fracture turned into a full fracture! We didn't even find it until over a month later. Not that I'm bitter or anything. So yes, see a real doctor in case you may've done something more.
so are we reaching consensus here . . .
that this type of stress from post-tib tendinitis CAN indeed lead to stress fractures of the tib?
that seems to be the conclusion i am coming to in my own research.
is it worthwhile getting an x-ray if i cant afford MRI or bonescans? or are x-rays worthless in determining stress fractures?
MRI's are the way to go. X-rays are useless unless calcium deposits have begun forming which is 2-4 weeks after the injury. My pain is right on the medial side of the foot. Not on the bone nor the 'N' spot. It hurts though when I get up on my toes or try an inversion resistance - turning my left foot inward trying to push my hand(with resistance) away. Pretty weird thing and hurts ext. bad!
Nick
I went to the dr and got an x-ray and he told me my foot was under good condition. But I couldnt step off of it and I couldn't run on it. I took 9 days off and did Cycling during those 9 days
This is how mine went
The ankle doesn't flare up big or anything it just feels sore like if I have sprained it. I have been running pretty much training for a marathon, I weigh 120 and I'm 5'8. It's gets swollen after I run near the navicular and I feel a slight pinch when I walk.
THis is my mileage up to date until last week when I got hurt

I did a workout on the track, Yes it' was last week um I think on tuesday, and I also did the 1000 on the track, although the foot started to hurt after the 600's on the way back to my house. Now, I do have a fairly amount on mileage on all shoes, and I'm working on getting new shoes asap. When I did the thousands the pain went away and I thought I was cured, bah no! That was not the case, I went and continued with my running and training thinking well it's just soreness today I had the worst run, but then again I was hauling through the run 12 miles.
Two days ago I stretched all day and ran with no pain, Today was just horrible pain it felt like if I had a sprained ankle and just recovering from it.
It hurts minimal when I walk and it doesn't hurt when I am sitting down, My foot don't hurt if I move it up and down, it hurts only when I move it side to side.
Treating this with ICING three times a day and taking Ibuprofen hopefully it's just one of the aches and pains you go through training with high mileage. I'm gonna ice it today three times and do routine stretches and take Ibuprofen if it doesn't cut down the pain, I will definetly take my first day off since June 06, 2004.
Prognosis: A navicular fracture by me.
Diagnosis: Posterior Tibial Tendonities
Dr. Dan Bell did an x-ray and said that my foot was in great condition, the only thing that he saw wrong when he was diagnosing it, was that I had a real swollen tendon. He advised for me to do Aqua Running and Stationary bike. He also advised for me not to run the Marathon as I would not be able to sustain my current fitness for the 2 weeks of non-running activity. He prescribe some Nodiene 300 mg I believe and Icing three times a day. He said that it will take my tendon two weeks to heal if I take care of it and don't put more stress on it.
On another note he said that the bike and the aqua running won't compensate for training for the marathon and if I was planning to run a good marathon to just hold back and postponed for another marathon as I build up. He also told me to consider these two weeks as recovery weeks and to not let go of my fitness. If I wanted to I could continue doing cross training activities without putting too much stress on the tendon. I will see him in 2 more weeks on Jan 20, I might just run the 10k in Jan 23 and then start training for Grandmas Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota another fast marathon.
Things I learned from my mistake on this injury.
1. Shoes I needed new shoes!
2. 24 miler on a sunday and then went on to do 6 x 600 on the track 2 days laters. That's what got the tendon inflamed, too much pronating on the curves.
3. Slow down Intensity when running high mileage.
I feel frustrated to have fallen 5 weeks short from running my first marathon. But their will always be other marathons.
Thanks Dr. Foot
Benny
P.S. I went to the Doctor just three days ago, he prescribed 300 mg of some crap and stayed off of running activity for 2 weeks, he told me I needed some arch support on my shoes cause I pronate too much. But I figured that I Don't need the soles since I had all of my 4 training shoes well over 500 miles of training as I didn't replace them. And I know an X-Ray can't determine a tiny hair like fracture, but the foot doctor I visited was very positive that he indeed he was capable of finding something from just x-ray.
Now its been 5 weeks since I went to the Doctor, and I have taken aleve for the last 6 days and ran on my foot. Of course it just masked the injury. I'm gonna run the marathon and then settle do go to the dr after the marathon. Hopefully so I can get a foot cast so I wont run on it anymore.
