Would hitting 80% VO2 Max (85% Max HR) offer one a chance to actually improve, or would it be counterproductive? El G and his crew train at approximately 80-85% VO2 Max on their "easy" days. They also intersperse track, hill and weight work between these footing sessions. For normal humans, what (if anything) does this offer?
If I were to attempt it, how long should I go. I find that about 50 minutes into an hour run I start feeling sore. I know the El G crew only does 10k (about 29-30 minutes). Does this "time" variable allow them to repeat the frequency that enables them to remain injury free?
