Jump events like LJ are what the TV networks switch to to save their audience from abject boredom during a 5000 or some other boring event for a bunch of nonathletic losers.
Distance runners talking about other peoples' events being boring is just another example of endurance "athletes" being the biggest pile of trash in the sports world. Shotputters probably think distance events are just as boring as TV networks do, but you won't find Joe Kovacs or Adam Nelson saying it. I remember about 3 years ago when the Paris DL cut away from the 5000 to show sprinters on the warmup track.
