I have a question... i'm living at 8,600 ft. Is this too high of an altitude for proper altitude training? I'm going to be here for 3 years and wondering if i'm too high for my own good in terms of my running. any imput would be great. Thanks....

Alamosa and Mexico DF are both right around 7500ft, Addis Ababa is at 8000ft, so you're probably fine.
I was looking at going to parts of the Andes which get between 15,000 and 16,000ft. That's on the high side.
I've trained every day at altitudes ranging from 7,200ft to 8,000ft and above 10,800ft once a week. you need to do strength work to help with the withering effects of mileage at high altitude. stuff like plyos, core work, hip and hamstring work.
to the original poster going to live at 8,600 feet for 3 years, I'd say you are ONE LUCKY MOFO!!!
The first week up there will be hell, but after that, you are going to be one super fit dude, assuming you train hard. I've done interval training at 10,500 feet (Zhongdian, China) and it is VERY UNCOMFORTABLE, but then so is racing!!!

Good location, but seek out some good flat areas for tempo-like runs and for faster rep sessions. If you get some opportunities to visit sea level or lower altitudes, try to spend enough time there that you can get in some good training to boost your morale that you are not loosing anything by being at altitude (prolonged stays at altitude somtimes lead to the worry that you aren't as good as you used to be). You'll benefit in the long term.
any whore house there?
