A Chariot's of Fire/Without Limits quality of movie needs to be made on the Life of Arthur Lydiard to influence our young runners.
Or a series of 3 movies, one on Lydiard, one on Cerutty and one on Ethiopian running need to be made. or even a movie that goes back and forwarth from Lydiard to Cerutty from the '64, '68 to '72 Olympic games.
High school runners need to see what it takes to make it. The MensRacing article with this past year's FootLocker national champion was amazing. But, there are runners out there who are realizing, just by their bodies Screaming at them, that xc-indoor-outdoot back to back with non stop anaerobic work is not the way to succeed but have zealous coaches who don't see student athletics as a way to develop these young people through support, but as a way to boost their own careers through instant results, not allowing for the neccessary change, only creating fear for a person (the coach) who should only be there for guidance and support.
How many young male athletes run/ran 10 miles every morning because they read PRE? Imagine the impact a movie focusing on Lydiard could have? Imagine an athlete fearlessly walking up to her coach saying, "You've told me that it's ok for me to be injured because everyone else on the team is injured. I won't accept this and I will be training smartly and I will be running for this team with your support."
