I hope they make Kylo Ren out to be gay, because how about a screwed up a$$hole character who happens to be gay? Not every gay is a happy, well-adjusted role model. Just like not every runner makes $250K, runs 13:55, can do 50 pull ups and has a hot model for a wife. Except on here.
Jeezus, I thought the standards here were $200k, 14:30, and merely a hot wife. And now the 50 pull ups. I can't stand the constant pressure to keep up!
(But I can do 50+ pull-ups, so I guess I was ahead on that one.)
As for the gay Star Wars characters, I don't care. It is a big universe.
Really, jeff. And weren't you saying in another thread you're not a troll?
"Star Wars isn't the platform for that agenda"?
I'd suggest art is precisely that platform.
Do you live in a room full of mirrors?
Um, Luke Skywalker, Ben, Joda, C3PO seemed pretty gay in the original movies in my opinion as well as JarJar Binks.
Gays, transgenders, etc. etc. etc. JJ Abrams is a big time Jew! Of course he is going to try and help slowly corrupt Western Culture. It is what they do.
Remember just 50 years ago, America was 90% white, ranked as #1 in education, the economy, safety, etc. etc. etc. Thanks to the Jewish Media, Fed Bankers, and now tons of Jew Friend Dual Citizen politicians, they have turned the USA into a 19 trillion in debt, corrupt, drugged out, DIVERSIFIED, crap hole!
OY VEY! WE MAKING LOTS OF MONEY OFF YOU GOYIM! NOW GET TO WORK SO SOME ILLEGALS CAN GET FREEBIES!

Have you ever posted anything running related?
How about Semites, Arabs, Mediterraneans and other half-breed folks of the sort.

They will all be on the LGBT planet.

I used to. All I ever got was "run more". So, I do.
When I have a serious training question, tho, I don't post here, no. Not anymore.
Not sure I am connecting all of your dots here.
1. I do not equate facilitating discussion with trolling. Trolling is inflammatory. I think my post was reasonably well thought out.
2. You may be right about art being "that platform". Sports figures, actors, etc. use their position all of the time to promote their own beliefs. Some I agree with, and some I don't. I just see a separation between the "real world" and "art". What an athlete says off the field or an actor says during as interview is their business. Putting it into the actual story (or game, to force the analogy) just doesn't seem right, though, if it isn't the original intent of the storyline.
3. You are gonna have to explain the mirrors comment to me, lol
To me it does not matter if one of the characters are gay. I do not think it will change the plot that much.
Kylo Ren is a fag... LOL

You'd seriously ask for your money back from a movie if a Star Wars character was gay? And you went to watch it with no idea of this beforehand? I can't imagine just how this might happen.
In other words, you're not facilitating discussion, but simply talking out your tail.
That's no mean feat though, congrats.
As for your post being "well thought out"; LOL.
2. Don't conflate a competitive arena with an artist's work. Art IS about expression. If an artist isn't to make some kind of statement with their work, then I'd question exactly what the value of that work actually is. It certainly isn't art.
You seem to reduce art to entertainment.
3. Art should both comment on and reflect a culture and a community. Gay people, like many minorities, have been written out of existence in so many ways.
e.g., Education boards still have arguments about whether or not a historical figure's sexuality should be something to teach in history classes. it's perfectly fine to take about, say, a POTUS wife, and children, and so on, but not mention that another one (or the same one) was gay. The aim here isn't to "protect the children", but to keep gay people invisible. It's much easier to deny a group of people rights and dignity if they don't actually have any value.
Do you think there should NOT be gay characters in movies in general? Or just science fiction ones? you know, movies with robots and aliens and so on. But there can't be gay people.
1. Ask for money back? lol no. (Please don't put words in my mouth.) But, I wouldn't take my young children to go see it, depending on how overt the theme is. More to the point, I resent using an established platform to make a controversial socio-political stance, the same as I did with the SuperBowl Halftime show. You have a statement to make? Start your own franchise, organize your own rally, etc.
And yes, my post IS well thought out. If you cannot tell the difference between posts like mine and posts like "Kylo Ren is a f@*", then I don't think you an I will be able to have an enlightened discussion. But, I DO think you know the difference, and were maybe just tired at the end of a long day, and decided to go with the first argument that popped in your head. It happens. We all have weak moments.
2. Some forms of art ARE entertainment. StarWars isn't exactly Michelangelo's David...just sayin' :-)
3. "Written out of existence" ≠"Not written into the script". I don't remember Star Wars starting with "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, where homosexuality had finally been eradicated..." This post-modern idea that every minority group out there must be represented in all forms of expression or else that expression is necessarily close-minded breeds exactly the frustration that is causing our once-great nation to rally behind a clown like Trump.

and why do you suppose that might be?
I have no doubt that it is everyone else's fault, right?
But, cause wasn't my point. Realism was.

Ha! Yes, the lightsabers do have many 'extra special' settings! All part of the Padawan bonding ritual.
Both the Jesus story and Star Wars are based on the mythical hero archetype. And since the Jesus story was about a bunch of gay guys wandering around doing magic, it would be a nice homage to put a gay character in Star Wars.

The troll is strong with this one.

"Not sure how I feel about this. As an analogy: some folks felt like Finn was gonna be "forced" into the plot because he is black. As it happened, he was a great character who happened to be black. I remember "Finn", not "the black guy". Now, if they had tried to force some sort of #BLM agenda down our throats, a la Bob Costas, then I prolly woulda asked for my money back (not because I disagree with the sentiment, but because Star Wars isn't the platform for that agenda.)"
Just sayin'
