I think Boulder sucks. I think a lot of people think you have to live in places like Boulder to be a successful runner. How many times have we seen kids on this board write \"We\'re thinking about moving to Boulder so we can get serious about our running..\" as if moving to Boulder was some magic move that would make you a better runner?
I totally disagree. I dont think anyone thinks that coming to Boulder is going to make them a more serious runner. The truth is it is an unbelievable place to train and that just makes it a whole lot more fun to get serious about your running. I ran cross country at UCDavis in California and couldnt stand it and ended up transferring back closer to home. ONE of the reasons was, it was hard to get motivated when you are running on flat, straight, dusty dirt roads for miles and miles a day. There, I remember counting down the miles until my run was over. Back here I can go out and run 14 or 15 miles without even thinking about how much further I have to go. A run that long was pure torture in Davis. The other thing that is great about Boulder is the fact that it has a athletic attitude that no place else has. There is just a general feel here that supports runners and all athletes alike. Its great, you walk in to the grocery store wearing running shorts and you dont get funny looks. And seriously where else does that happen. Living the life of a runner is easier here. Its easier to find the right foods, the right running stores, people to train with, places to train and great races. And the other thing is, isnt it fun to see Frank Shorter when you\'re out on a run. It always gives me a little boost. But hell why am I telling you this, Boulder sucks, we dont want you here, go to Davis, leave us alone.
