i dont know what this translates too, but thought i would post it anyway.
My guess would be 3.43.00!!!!!!!
I saw the name Obea Moore dropped earlier on this thread. I remember reading an article in Runner's World by Erik Heinonen last year on Obea. Apparently he is trying ot make a comeback this spring and seems to have his life somewhat together after a few tumultous years. Does anyone know how his training is coming along, or if he still even is training? He was an amazing talent, it's a shame he couldn't pull it together a few years ago.
What would you prefer? Should I arbitrarily give you a number as to what a 400 m runner could run in the mile? Usually, those predictions are baseless.
Most of the anecdotes stem from part of the discussion questioning the ability of world class 400 m to translate that speed into success at the 1500. I take issue with times that seem grossly unrealistic.
Richard Davenport is a world class junior. In my eyes, this counts. So shut up you boring prick. If you don't like the way the thread has gone, then dont contribute. You are the one killing it....unless you have anything positive to add of course (doubtfull).
BORE OFF!
name or shame, fool.
really fast 400 guy wrote:

you do realize that 1600 is 4 full laps of a typical outdoor track, correct?
So, you don't have to read the posts. Ask the Wejos and see if they will allow you to become a moderator; that way your control needs can be met by your ability to NUKE any posts you deem inappropriate.
Have a nice life, by the way.
The problem with threads like this--how fast can a sprinter run like a distance runner--is that the premise if faulty. The question presumes that a 400 sprinter actuall cares how fast he can run a mile, but the fact is that a world class 400 sprinter doesn't care about running a mile. He's a sprinter!
There was a time, in the 50's and 60's, when many 400 runners ran cross country, in the mistaken belief that XC would build "strength" for the 400. In those days, many (not just 1 or 2) 400 sprinters could run a mile in the mid-4 range.
These days, sprint coaches realize that XC--for an in-shape, talented 400 athlete--is not the thing to do, because the athlete spends too much time away from speed, and it takes too long to get the basic speed back.
So the question is irrevelent. Nobody knows how fast a world class 400 runner can run a mile, because THEY DON'T GIVE A DAMN.
