Title says it all. Who's going to drop the hammer that seperates the 2:13-16 guys from the sub 2:12 guys. Who's gonna push the pace? When do they do it?
Personally i think it'll go out very conservatively and there will be a huge pack until 17 where Ritz speeds it up. He's experienced. I can also see Ryan Hall being dumb and dropping a 4:38 within the first 10k.
What do you think?
I'd love to see Ryan Hall try to recapture the glory days and act as a defacto rabbit for the race. Bring the field through 10 miles in 50 minutes before he blows up (something like that).
i would think that the pace will be hard from the gun, if it is too easy to 30k it opens the door for whoever is still in the mix at that point. I would like to see 49 minutes at ten miles
Ryan Hall will make the winner win.
Estrada told me he plans to make a break at mile 8. He thinks it is early enough that the main pack will let him get a gap but that he can churn out a hard pace solo for the last 18 miles if need be.

The trials should be hot and humid, right? At least hot. I doubt it'll be a hard pace. Especially with so many uncertainties with Ritz, Hall, Estrada, Meb, Rupp? Derrick? Maybe I'm wrong. Personally i hope it's slow.
I would bet against Ritz being the one to push the pace.
I'd say Chelanga or even Ward will make it a race.
Maybe Kibet as well. I hope it will be exciting. I do not want to see the winner running 2:13 or so.......
If they start early in the morning the temps should be good for a fast race...
Jon Grey will be the one to start the attacks. I'd expect it around mile 18-19.

Really? I can see Ritz trying to break the newbies. I can see Ward being top 3, 5 definitely, but not making a huge move.

It will be cold for L.A., but just about right for most of the runners. L.A. is in the middle of a number of sequential rain storms, so it could be very wet.

What did Ryan Hall run at for Mile 18 at the 2007 Trials? That is your potential answer, the elite runner who can run 1/2 marathon pace and faster in the last part of the race. So if Ryan Hall drops the 4:32 18th Mile,, 4:40 19th Mile and 4:38 20th Mile that he did in the 2007 Trials, only a few of the elites will be able answer that type of surge.
