Here is from Vin Lananna at the USATF Conference - "I recruited Galen. Alberto wrote the long term plan for Galen. We agreed to workouts. Andy Powell coaches Galen day-to-day at Oregon."
Here is another excerpt when Vin was first hired in 2005 and how it started and then remained the same,
Looks like someone found it to be a relevant question:
"Lananna said he has never dealt with a situation in which an athlete on his team was trained by another coach, such as Oregon freshman Galen Rupp being tutored by former UO great Alberto Salazar this past season.
However, he said he has a "positive relationship" with Salazar and he was confident they could work things out.
"Typically, I've coached whoever was on the team," Lananna said. "I have enough respect for Alberto and his coaching and passion that I think we can sort through this. ... Galen is a wonderful athlete and Alberto has done a great job. We'll take it one step at a time. It's not an issue to me."
As for Salazar, who is in Europe with Rupp, he was excited about Lananna's hiring and eager to work with him.
"I called Vinny three weeks before the NCAAs to ask his advice on Galen's workouts, that's how much I respect him," he said. "I look at this as a great opportunity to have someone to help with Galen."
