How bout the guy in the SU speedsuit with the flag and megaphone yesterday? That guy deserves a lot of credit too.

Why would he? It was almost impossible to even see this race (I was never able to)...
Great job Chris. One of the toughest and most humble guys I ever ran against. For quite some time now a great coach. How sweet is that trophy? Congrats.
Watch the Northeastern regional cross country championship. Look at Knight waiting for Germano at the finish line. Even though Germano is not the star of the team, Knight waits for him and gives him an honest high five. You don't see Ches waiting for #6 on the team.
That type of good team spirit may be why Germano put everything he had in that last 2k. It may be a big reason for the win...

I've known Chris since HS. We competed against each other, roomed together, and he is a one of the nicest guys. I am very happy for him and his team, they peaked at the right time and needed it in order to win.
Chris had a brilliant running career and took that knowledge and built a great program. It didn't happen overnight which should make it sweeter.
Congrats Chris!
^^^^ Legend.
Malmo,
Central New York!
Buerkle - Rochester (Western NY)
Tuttle - Watertown (Northern NY) but close enough so I'll take it.
Pfitz - Not CNY either.
If we include all New York, that would give us Frank Shorter, too, Middletown (downstate), but I gotta be reasonable. This prize is for Syracuse and Syracuse alone (central New York)!

Just 1 knight but his home is closer to the Syracuse campus than any other kid on the team
He still is a foreigner. So cut out that stupid comment. he didn't pick up any kid from Canada. He picked up one of the best from Canada. Also, there is another Candian kid on the roster and several other kids are from places closer than Knight.

What the hell are you talking about? Syracuse, Ithaca and Rochester are all the same place. Siberia. You put on a beenie on December 1st and you don't take it off until St Patricks Day.
Middletown is nowhere near Siberia.
Chris Fox rocks!
Great job coach Fox! He says Bennie was a hockey player but not many hockey players running 9:07 two mile in grade 11.

Correction ... Tuttle is from Almond NY, which is about an hour south of Rochester.
This general area can claim Molly Huddle as well.
Not sure what F%#@*ng planet you live on, but ANY college coach would take 3 9:00 flat guys, plus Knight in a heartbeat.. Fox and Bell (who spends all his time recruiting) deserve big congrats on winning and keeping the ship focused. But dont spew bullshit, they get a ton of good distance kids every year, look at their roster there are 9:05/sub 410 out the ass.First school in the east in decades to win mens title, and doing it with US kids (north america) for the most part. Much more respect for this win then Franklin buying New Mexico a championship with 22 year old transfers from Europe who compete for only 2 years

WOW look at the times from HS the Syracuse guys had and now they are NATIONAL CHAMPS
Yes Knight was a stud coming in but the others?
Colin Bennie – 9:07.44
Martin Hehir – 9:00.21
Dan lennon 9:00.52
Philo Germano – 4:19
Joel Hubbard – 4:09.27
Joe Kush – 9:20.03
Not the set of pr's you would say would win a national title but a coaching staff that develops talent.
That is 2 9 flat guys and a 9:07 guy, which is a far cry from the times the best HS kids are running now.
I will say this year we saw a a great showing of kids who developed over time. Look at the top 10. There are foreigners, a few HS studs (Ches, Rosa, McGorty) and 4 Americans who were far from the top recruits out of their HS class in Pierce Murphy, Jonathan Green, Colin Bennie, and Martin Hehir.
Who gave out more distance scholarships? The Orange or the Lobos? It would be nice if there were actually cross country scholarships and ALL schools had the SAME amount to work with. I can't fault Franklin if he can't get quality US kids to run at New Mexico. Is Fox throwing partial scholarships at 9:50 guys and developing them?

I see Syracuse send individuals to nationals in non-sprinting events. They had 2 hurdlers there last year. I can't say the same about New Mexico. Franklin could get 9:07 type guys, he wants instant impact players. Philo Germano was a 9:40/4:19 guy. Some people can coach talent but have a tough time developing it. I am conflicted about Joe Franklin. On the one hand, he has developed 3 Harvard transfers into studs seemly over night (Is the Harvard coach bad? Academics getting in the way?) Everyone else was already a stud who just kept on rolling (Rhona Auckland seems to have taken a step back, but its still early).
Gotta give props to Fox's OG Cuse Team.. Bubsy, Murdock, Bixler, Davis, Koloseus, Graves, Medrano. These guys signed up when everyone told them Syracuse was terrible. They believed in Fox and helped shape the future.
This is a big with for the Syracuse Family.
Fox is a great coach. He develops a personal relationship with his athlete's which leads to a strong belief in the training, builds a team that cares about each other & a desire to work very hard. During Fox's very successful running career he suffered a serious injury that required surgery. While recuperating he coached XC & distance runners at Univ North Carolina. He led the men to a top 5 finish @ NCAA's. His success at Syracuse should not be a surprise. It was expected
