We agreed to let letsrun decide who's right. New carpet -- is it better to vacuum, say every other day or is it better to let it go three to four weeks? Better=longer life.

Longer life for the carpet or the marriage?

Let's just hope you aren't rationing the booty that way?
It's sure as hell easier to vacuum every 3-4 weeks. Maybe you didn't know that.
Lets just say there is some form of booty on the line....
I'll "specalate" that more frequent vacuuming is better. I imagine that the dirt in the carpet would tend to damage (cut) the fibers when walked upon. And then of course there is the greater potential for building up stains. However, every other day sounds slightly excessive. Maybe twice a week.
I can't believe anyone would put up with anyone who would go a month without running a vacuum. That is disgusting.
He says the carpet will last longer.
Hmm...Now excessive vacuuming will pull the fibers out, but gaining dirt and what not will cause the fibers to stick together
once a week is my vote.
Tear it up and put down hardwood. Carpet will never stay clean.
I suppose the carpet might last longer, but why would you want carpet that would end up looking and smelling like shit to last very long anyway.
I don't think the carpet would last longer. If it looks bad and smells bad then it is shot. It really is an embarrassing and infantile arguement by someone that is trying to get out of work. That would not fly with me for one second.
The carpet is brand new so there isn't any bad smells. He just wants it to last so we don't have to replace it again. He's a bit thrifty.....
Well, what kind of carpet is it? If it's burbur (sp?) and gets little traffic, I would think you would be ok for a few weeks without running the vaccum. But the vacuum probably wouldn't do any damage to burbur anyway so I'd vacuum it.
High traffic areas, I'd say vacuum, no matter what kind of carpet.
I guess, I'm going to have to go with vacuuming. That's just what I'd do.
thrifty? wtf haha carpet lasts years on end
Here's what I'm wondering: is the husband that lazy or that stupid?
Yes, I know....that's how it is living with a cheapsk...er, thifty person. At least we can laugh about it. Our sex life depends on letsrun, that's a scary thought.
Every day seems very excessive. Maybe once every two weeks, I'd say. Just don't walk on it worth dirty shoes. The carpet in my dorm hasn't been vacuumed for 5 months and it's fine.
Depends how often you have sex on it.Seems to me once a month will be just fine.
I'd say once a week. On the weekends is when I do my cleaning. Any more than once a week and it starts to cut into training and sleeping time...And sex too for those who are getting it (bastards).
