I was just told by a high school that there current XC/Track coach is retiring after this school year and they have given me the job to take over the team next year. I am trying to change the culture of this team because it relies way too much on talent and does not develop the "2nd tier runners" as hard for them to succeed. Over the summer how much mileage should I tell the runners to build up to per week (based on grade/experience/talent)? Also during track and XC how many track workouts, long runs, and tempos/farleks should I make them be doing?
