I walked on to a division 2 xc team and had modest success my freshman year, running 26:59 8k and being in our teams' top 3. However last winter I got very sick, and then very hurt, causing myself to lose serious training over the period of about 6 months. I'm now healthy, but 12 pounds over my race wieght and in no kind of shape at all. I doubt I could run a 30 min 8k flat out right now. I have 5 weeks until the yearly time trial, in which all the walk on have to earn a spot on the team. My coach is being less than helpful, and Im looking for the any advice I can get. I usually run about 55 miles a week, with a 13 mile long run (although my highest this summer was last week-41) and I have access to a gym. Whats the best was I can use my next 5 weeks to earn my spot back? Willing to do whatever it takes. Thanks in advance.
