I am going into my junior year of high school with a 4:55 mile and 10:45 two mile off of 30 miles a week. This is the first summer I am taking running seriously (it's now my first sport) and am trying to break 17 in the 5k this upcoming season. How much mileage should I try to establish my base around and what type of runs/workouts should I do because I am new to summer running for XC.
Yeah bro you are on your way to sub 17 in no time. Increase your mileage to whatever is comfortable. If you can average 50 a week in the summer for your base. With the right periodization you will easily break it. You might even surprise yourself. Keep it up. I don't think the real workouts start til your season starts.
What's your XC 5k PR? I run similar times as you in the mile and 2 mile, but off ~40 mpw average. I'm also hoping to PR big this season, but I don't know how high to shoot because my PR is 18:30. Good luck with training btw!
yea I played soccer my first two years and then switched to running... I was about the same times after my soph. year... up to 50-55 miles per week and do some speed workouts, you'll get it in XC this year.
