Depends on the size. Zero warning for one the size of your fist. Significant warning for one that is 5 km in diameter.

The exhaustive list of known potential large (> ~100 m) meteors is here: http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/orbits/ For these a near encounter can be predicted years in advance. For a meteor barely large enough to reach the surface there's virtually no warning. Of course there is always the possibility of large unknown objects.
