4:00 for me. Pre-flight for work.
4:00 for me. Pre-flight for work.
2:30AM many times as I travel a lot with my speaking. It's really not that bad! I normally get up at 3:45 every day ( I'd always get up at that time back in my dairy farming days. Haven't milked cows since 1992 but still wired to get up at that time. ) I love running early, no traffic what so ever. I then will sleep on the plane. :-)
Ran a 7 mile leg at Hood to Coast around 3 am after a 90 minute nap. Ran surprisingly well! Training wise, nothing out of the ordinary. 5:30 am before work.
midnight run. slept for 3 hours before hand. way too hot one evening in illinois. still really hot at midnight. my god the midwest sucks.
4am for me as well..I would drive to my workplace and run 7 to 10 miles every morning before work..did that for over 20 years.
One thing that is overlooked by early morning runners.
Wildlife own the world before the world gets out of bed.
I would run in pitch black darkness, down deserted roads and paths...
I was attacked once by a coyote who gnawed on my leg a little and I had to get rabies shots.
It occurred to me that I was oblivious to the danger and it could have been worse in a state that has, coyotes, bobcats, wild animals of all kinds..javelinas, you name it..
I trained at the dark hours for all those years, heard a lot of strange cries and screams from animals but was only attacked once...
We have to realize at some point...we don't own the night.
4:00 A.M. all winter long.
8 PM.
To this day I still don't know.
I was on a summer road trip with my new in laws who are the lightest sleepers. Because they are also very frugal we were all sharing a motel room.
On the first night I woke up and couldn't find my watch to check the time. I laid there for awhile and then decided it was close to dawn so I might as well run. I quietly grabbed my stuff and left the room. I still couldn't find my watch.
I ran for about an hour, came back, and still no daylight. I sat outside the room for awhile and the decided to swim in the outdoor pool. Another hour and by the end of it the sky began to lighten up. I hung out on the pool furniture for awhile then back to sit outside the motel room so I could hear any signs of stirring from my early rising in laws.
Eventually they got up and I was reunited with my watch. I don't remember the time, now, but I must have gone out to run at about 2:00am.
It was a weird night hanging out on a hot Florida summer night with no context of time.
Many times at 4 am or a bit earlier for triathlons. Drive through the night and then dive into a some cold lake or river. The run comes later though, so I'm not sure if this really counts.
4:30am to meet with a friend at 5. Never again...
Around 4:30am, before a trip. The sun rose around 6am that day, so I ran through the woods (on a trail) with a headlamp.

I start work at 6 am so have done my morning run at 3:15 - 3:30 for years. The great thing about starting work so early is that I do my afternoon run at 2:30. I look forward to retirement and living a normal existence.
After actually sleeping? 4 Am. I've been up until midnight plenty of times, especially when I was in college and would run then occasionally.
Himalayan Mtn. climbers often start their ascents at 1 AM or so, so as to enough time to gt back down. They are not running, but when one is at 8000m I'm told it feels worse than VO2 max test.
Too hot to run here in the afternoon, evening, so I wake up at 4am everyday. Helps that I have nothing to do this summer . I have run at 1am, 2:30am, a couple years ago.
Ignoring Ragnar-style races where I've run after waking at absurd times, I'll typically get up around 3 to run when I have a 6AM flight or train for a business trip.
I actually got up before I went to bed one night.
Most of you seem to be insomniacs. I've been up at 4am to get to a 7am race but otherwise rarely run before 9am.
