This is the answer. Haven't any of you ever done a race with friends/family and finished with a slow time? These days probably a third or more of my registered runs are just fun runs with family and friends. I'd rather do a turkey trot running with my daughter than be that guy who needs to show up the 18 minute dude having his day of glory.

Thanks for the reality check. To answer your question, no, I have actually never raced with friends or family. All my racing has been alone, and all my training has been alone, except 3 training runs in the last 5 years. I ask them frequently to join, even as a finisher, but none ever do. I just realized that either everyone I know hates running, or I am the 2nd saddest person on this forum.
Last year I think he paced Christy Turlington, or at least ran with her. Good gig if you can get it!
