I completed my final 20+ mile long run over the weekend doing the first 10 @ 6:50ish and final 10 averaging 5:54 pace (the final mile was 5:29). It was tough, but not ridiculous.
For a little more background, I've been averaging 75 - 85 mpw in this marathon build up and have four 20+ milers including a 22 miler last week done as more of a time on feet run. This is my second marathon. The first was a 2:47. Three weeks before that race, I completed a very similar workout with a similar amount of effort, but for the final 10 I averaged 6:20. So, for that race I was able to hold a slightly slower pace for the entire race. I was also pretty new to running and doing less mileage in preparation for that race (60-70 mpw). I haven't raced anything recently, and I try not to hammer too many workouts, so I don't have too many other useful predictors. What do you guys think a reasonable goal should be? Any other advice? Obviously, it's my first Boston. Thanks.
