No soccer player farther than 20m from the ball runs at all.
The best players are certainly not that close more than half the time, and most of their running is chopped stride and zigzagging, not the kind that would make it 10 miles or even 10k in 45 minutes.
They might, maybe, total 10k from all the running and walking combined.
Yes, it is about 10k at most per game for elite soccer players

Honestly, I would say 16:30 is pretty astonishing considering you haven't done any training. There are a lot of people on these message boards who spit on times like that, but a time like that is already in the top 10% of the country. With a little bit of training, you'd be no slouch. I say go for it!
Except that soccer *is* training. It's not like he's a couch potato. He's in pretty good shape.
10 miles was just an estimate. You guys are pretty high strung!
That would include all movement during a game (sprinting, walking, jogging slowly etc)
I feel I'm in great shape. I'm one of the fittest guys on a collegiate soccer team. Being in good shape isn't an issue. If I were to get into running it would be things like technique etc.
If you are serious. Go out for track. With track specific training, you could run very well. You have talent. Use it.
Yeah I worked out with some guys from the team today.
They did a ladder workout of 800/1200/1600/2000 and back down. It was pretty rough and I hung in but was on the verge of vomitting at the end.
Pretty sure I know who you are.
Don't feel bad about the workout today. All up it was a pretty amazing effort for your first ever track workout.
And don't listen to some of these messages. I'm sure you've been told a lot but 16:30 for your 5k is an unreal opener (thus all the negativity, a lot of these guys fancy themselves competitive runners and train year round but have never run that fast)
Heck, anything under 20 for a first ever 5k breaths potential.
Join the team, focus on running and I promise you'll be one of the schools best distance runners by the time you're a senior. You hung with some quality guys today and I know they (and their coach) are super impressed.

Thanks man,
Should comment under Andy! Looks like I'm talking to myself.
I love myself!!!
When my pee looks like water I don't flush
oh, the other uw.
okay, I see someone a bit slower than that in your age group in the race you mentioned. No reason that hard and consistent training with a group faster than you could bring you down below 15:30 or even 15 within a year or two.
Obviously the above 2 or 3 posts weren't me.
Anyway I've signed up for another race at the end of May. This one on a track. I'm allowed to train with the track team until then. They said a reasonable goal is 15:30 so that's what I'm aiming for...maybe pace myself a bit better this time.
How in the world did those people log in to your account anyway...?
Even if your username isn't registered and they broke the rules by copying your name, or even if some prankster got on your computer to post stuff under your logged in name, that would still make Andy's post nonsense. Why would someone offering a supportive comment for the OP make their name the same as the OP's name??
Hm...?
To answer your original question, no you do not have potential.
