Couldn't find a thread (Did I miss it?). A lot of good HS athletes running there this weekend. I'm hoping some LR folks are up there and will keep us updated.

Alright,
Help me out here LRs, who is the girl (10th grader) that torched McKenna Morley and Aubrey Argyle in the 3200 at Simplot??
Have the East African's invaded our HS meets, or is she from a local school and I'm just not up to date?
She looks like a good one.

Amelia Mazza-Downie, an Aussie with a 9:14 PR for 3k back in November.
Boise has been ILLEGALLY recruiting her for the last few months so possibly they got her to come to Pocatello in conjunction with an unofficial visit??
Never mind, now Iowa State, Kennesaw State and others are illegally recruiting her too so I guess it's just fair game that contact can be started in Grade 10... Wish I'd have gotten that memo
Actually she was on a trip with a few other athletes from Australia...http://www.kpvi.com/content/news/local/story/Australian-team-competes-in-Simplot-Games-for-the/L7Oa4IgE2kqd-JbZya4Csg.cspx
However I checked her facebook and you are correct, she is getting illegally recruited by Boise, Iowa State, Kennesaw State. As a former recruiting coordinator myself I am amazed at the way the rules are not even followed by certain schools... Not really an even playing field if you ask me.
Toledo is another school illegally recruiting her too after a 5 second glance at her Facebook page...
Sorry- didn't want to create a recruiting argument, I just had no idea who she was and figured East African. That's really an interesting story and great experience for the Aussies and the kids that participated up there.
Why would someone leave Australia in mid-summer and travel to eastern Idaho?? I've was once in Pocatello in February and it was like -25F without windchill. Those kids must have been shocked and thought they'd been rerouted to Siberia.

Perhaps Australia is like some European systems where their high school ends when the kids are 16 and then they go to the University? I don't know recruiting rules, but that may make a difference?
Nope if anything it's even more illegal because they graduate in November after Grade 12 not June, just plain old fashioned slimy behaviour from Boise, Iowa State, Kennesaw State, and Toledo... Good to see that they consider themselves above the other NCAA schools that FOLLOW THE RULES!
Well- it's either a violation or not, does NCAA just not care??
I can't think of a worse recruiting idea than for an Boise St to encourage an Aussie to come visit Pocatello in February. That certainly will leave an impression, just not a good one!
Simplot has a subsidiary in Australia that paid to have 6 kids from that school come over, according to the newspaper. Same thing for the athletes from Mexico. Not too big a shock with the weather because it was sunny and about 60 degrees on TH and FR. Nice weather for an outdoor meet!
Mazza-Downey looked really good, though Morley held on very well.
It is definitely a violation, it's just no one cares enough to turn it in. Too complicated...

Now that's classic. Too complicated to report, so just get on LR and b!tch about it!
Considering someone said they could easily spot violations after 5 seconds, how difficult should it be to report it? NCAA must have created a bunch of red tape.

Yes, all the big money schools totally follow the rules all the time! They can't get enough of staying within the rules! You guys really have no clue as to how international recruiting REALLY works.
Back when Coach Henry from A & M was at LSU, as well as many of the other SEC schools, the stuff going on to open the Caribbean recruiting channels was downright ridiculous. Whole pallets of old uniforms, equipment, extra gear from Nike, etc were being shipped and "donated" to certain clubs that either provided direct recruits to the SEC schools or their specially selected Jr. colleges that would hold the athletes for 2 years until they qualified/had scholarship available and then send them to whoever "placed" them there.
The end result was that if you went to a Junior Championship track meet on certain talent-rich islands, you would swear that you were at an SEC Championship with all the "school" representation. It got to where the coaches down there expected this type of "favor". It is still going on today, so don't get all high and mighty when you happen to notice something like this, believe me, below the surface it is much worse.
And don't get me started on how the African pipelines are opened, it's much more ruthless and favor for favor based.
