He's from Salinas. Quite a few good runners coming out of that farming town as of late.
He ran 4:23 in high school. Ended up running at the local JC which has produced a number of quality runners the last 30+ years.
Funny how so many schools turn away guys like this. The top 20 are the top 20 no doubt but more often than not the 4:20 kid does more than the 4:08 kid who is burnt out and quits (i.e. Stanford). How many more just quit after HS because they've never been given a shot. JC is taboo in today's world of AP exams and name brand schools but it goes to show that you never know.
