That is because the world's best runners do no stinkin' two miles.
They do it to duck each other

Yeah, the two-mile is not an IAAF world record event, so no drug test needed.
Wait, you're saying that if I can figure out how to dope my way to the American 2 mile record it's mine?

How so?
Because Emma holds the AR, but she didn't jump through all the hoops of putting it in their "Certified by Usatf" records list.
Jenny did crush a doped AR (Jacobs, 9:23), so mighty impressive and front-running the majority of the race.
I saw it in person. It was thrilling. The whole meet was thrilling, even to my date who wasn't really into track (just a hobby jogger) but she was screaming and cheering at all the races. Jenny was right on pace the first few laps but then fell off. We were wondering whether the record would fall as she was almost 4 seconds under. Then the last two laps she unleashed that kick and it was killer. That is why Jenny is world class and what a world class runner needs - a kick. She made up over 8 seconds in two laps. It was really something to see.
A nice feature was having the "jumbotron" or whatever it's called (a new feature at the Reggie this year) show the record pace time for each lap that they needed to hit as the race progressed. It really added to the excitement and brought the crowd into it that much more.
B Mart was gutsy as hell, Lagat and Willis were great, Centro cruised and made it look easy. What a great meet and my date thought it was outstanding. I think she's a keeper.

I was wondering if anyone else noticed that haha
I noticed.
I watched the event on TV, and I was cheering from my couch. That was one of the best races I have ever seen. Jenny simply crushed them, and it was done so skillfully.

Wow--and blew away three Ethiopians! What an exciting finish as she gapped the second place finisher.
Great performance by Simpson. In defense of the Ethiopian women, they were probably a bit wiped out by their long trip in from Ethiopia.
Mary Cain will have that record in 3 years

How does one skillfully crush someone in racing exactly?
So Shannon Rowbury had the 2 mile record for like what? A few months? She will forever live in Jenny's shadow, must be hard getting bent over like that often.
With her skill in running, knowing when and how to kick, she crushed her opponents. Are we okay now?

Watch any video of Marty Liquori racing in MSG.

Shannon still holds the outdoor record. Fortunately for her, Jenny is not likely to run that distance any time soon.

Which is slower than the indoor record...
They both ran 8:29's at DL Brussels last summer while at peak fitness, they're probably in the same 2 mile shape as well...

While true, it does not erase Shannon's mark from the books.
Women's mid-dist is stacked with talent right now. A real golden age, even have two Americans in there. Couldn't be happier to see it. Now the question is who will rise to the top?
Hassan, Jenny, Shannon, Aregawi, Genzebe, Obiri, Seyaum (who is only 18)

It's unfortunate that your shallow brain sees things that way.
Rowbury's solo 4:22 mile last week is on par to Simpson's 9:18 two mile this week based on the IAAF scoring tables.
However, Rowbury ran on a flat track which makes the score for her converted time superior to Simpsons.
Rowbury's 14:48 5k is far superior to Simpson's 14:56 5k.
