She is fierce, in the mold of Nadal and Serena. Perhaps she kept her game face on too long. She noted that the race was run off base work and she wasn't sharp yet. I still love her and want her to marry our son!

Lagat is a class act, if you compare others to him you'll seldom like what you see. Lagat legitimately respects his competitors, and he is friends with a good bunch of them so he'll congratulate them.

Martinez is a gracious woman who was a letsrun fan favorite until...yesterday, I guess.

If you're judging this by the postrace interview on TV, Martinez was probably and logically waiting for Tully to get a chance to speak on her own behalf. The TV crew brought her over to stand next to Martinez and then never asked her anything. Not Brenda's fault,

Based on your comments about what Cain should have said also, it's clear that you want boring, predictable, recycled statements to be used in interviews. She wasn't discrediting Tully. You are forcing that interpretation.

I, too, think you're wrong. What I thought was classless was Ato Bolden completely ignoring the 2nd place girl when they were both standing there.

She ran a gutsy race against a World Medalist and was just left standing there.

I do agree with you that the interviewer did a poor job, but that doesn't excuse Brenda ignoring the other runner who almost beat her. As someone posted, if that were Hall she would not have done that. Bottom line is she felt "above" her because she thinks she the cat's meow.

Since when is acknowledging competitors in post-race interviews a requirement for not being considered arrogant...or for that matter, for any other reason?

I fail to see how this qualifies Martinez as being arrogant. She almost certainly wouldn't have known Tully, met her before this race, or even known her name, all factors that contribute to it being unlikely for Martinez make reference to Tully.

I don't get why OP seemingly thinks it was a requirement for Martinez to give Tully a verbal BJ in the interview...I guess OP is just a really big fan of the NJNY track club and wants actually successful runners like Martinez to give them recognition. After all, considering these are the wannabes who finish dead last in their final at USA's (if they make it that far) and can't even hit 'A' standards, I suppose they have to take every opportunity to shine, even the little ones like finishing kind of close behind Brenda Martinez at an early season indoor meet.
