To the guy asking about his HS training, you're right that for long bouts it was low mileage but that was due to his knee surgery.
Before his breakthrough senior year though, he was running 70 miles a week and his workouts were moderately intense.
Also everyone criticizing his 8:04, remember that that was how fast the race went. It's not like the race went 7:55 and he only ran 8:04. The race went 8:04 and he ran 8:04, and was barely outkicked by a very good miler who is capable of 7:52 or so. You can't just look at the time and think that is someone's current maximum performance.
I don't think it's unreasonable to think that by summer he will be able to go 7:45. This guy is a super-talent. He is on a talent level hard to understand. If he just stayed healthy and did everything at 80% effort, he would run 13:15.
