I am a serious female college runner averaging usually at least 65mpw-85mpw. I have PR'd this past XC season running sub 226k and 17:20ish 5k's, all my workout times are faster than last year. My body composition is pretty good, about 13% body fat, 5'2 and 105lbs. I weighed about the same last year, but definitely was not this lean. I want to try to get leaner and see if I PR even more. I don't want to drop below 98, maybe not even 100. However, to do this I have been trying to create a 200-300 calories deficit a day, so about .5 lbs loss a week. I don't care how long it takes me to lose weight. From several calculations: my BMR+active lifestyle (student who walks a lot)+average of 70mpw I should eat about 2,700-2800 calories a day. I think for the past year, honestly, I have been eating more than that...probably closer to 2,700-3,000 most days. I have been eating about 2300-2500 in the past 2 weeks ad I have lost maybe a 1-2 lbs (hard to gauge such minimal loss) but my legs feel like shit and workouts and hard running are HARD but still doable. Should i just forgo this weight loss plan? my question is: do you think it makes more sense to maintain my weight to possibly train harder and recover or drop to 100lb, and see if I PR (assuming I would eat my normal diet before race time)? I think I may already be as lean as I should get, but I want to find my genetic limit and be the best I can be.
