I'm thinking right after Thanksgiving, but I see some others have them up already. What say you?

Yes. Wait till it gets good and cold so you can build mental toughness and hopefully get some frostbitten digits. And climbing ladders during snow storms forces you to develop balance!
Weed out the week ones.
Never
Look at the forecast and pick a warm, sunny day in late November. Hope for a warm, sunny day in early January to take the blasted things down, or risk looking like trailer park rednecks.
whenever you do it, make sure they don't come down until July

Sir, I will have you know that I keep my lights up year round because the birth of Baby Jesus is something that should be celebrated all year!
"Dear Lord baby Jesus, lyin' there in your ghost manger, just lookin' at your Baby Einstein developmental videos, learnin' 'bout shapes and colors. I would like to thank you for bringin' me and my mama together, and also that my kids no longer sound like gang-bangers."
I like the seeing the lights up for as long as practical. Ideally, this would be for the whole standard time period (early Nov. to early March). Decorations that are obviously Christmas related (e.g. santas, nativity scenes, etc.) should be put up after thanksgiving and down at a reasonable time around New Years.
I think the lights, especially white, are a nice touch through winter and look good with the snow on the ground.
Up Dec 1-ish
Down after Little Christmas
Hanging lights is a tradition for those lacking aesthetics and class.

Try to be original, if you can.
After Thanksgiving.
NOW IS THE TIME!!!
It should just be a simple matter of plugging them in. They should be up year round.
