So the 2015 list of banned substances from WADA is now out:https://wada-main-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/resources/files/wada-2015-prohibited-list-en.pdfI decided to take a look at it. From reading it, it seems to me that glycerol is banned.
WADA wrote:
S5. DIURETICS AND MASKING AGENTS
The following diuretics and masking agents are prohibited, as are other substances with a similar chemical structure or similar biological effect(s).
Including, but not limited to:
Desmopressin; probenecid; plasma expanders, e.g. glycerol and intravenous administration of albumin, dextran, hydroxyethyl starch and mannitol.
Acetazolamide; amiloride; bumetanide; canrenone; chlortalidone; etacrynic acid; furosemide; indapamide; metolazone; spironolactone; thiazides, e.g. bendroflumethiazide, chlorothiazide and hydrochlorothiazide; triamterene and vaptans, e.g. tolvaptan.
Is that the same thing I once took for water retention?
If so, it means that myself as well as Steve Spence are apparently dopers.
The New York Times did a feature on glycerin loading in 2006:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/18/health/nutrition/18mara.html?pagewanted=allDave Martin got Spence and most top US marathoners to use it back in the day (i imagine I heard about it from Martin myself)- Spence used it to win bronze in 1991.
The NY Times article refers to it as a legal tactic.
If it's banned now, when did it get banned?

PS. This is depressing. When my brother got really good at running, I had a running joke with John Kellogg, "Is there any chance he's a doper?" John replied, "Nope, he's not nearly good enough if he's a doper."
I'm going to really be depressed to learn I couldn't even break 2:20 if I was dopoing.
