This is why people will always be disappointed and/or shocked when Webb doesn't crush everyone in tris. He is NOT a 27:30 guy! He was, 8 years ago, one time at Stanford.
Stop judging Webb like he is (present tense) a great runner. You are living so far in the past. In the entirety of 2013 his best mile/1500m (the event I think we can all agree he was trying to run his best in) was, according to his IAAF profile, 3:45. No marks for any other distances. People who see Webb as this incredible runner who can clean up in tris if he gets to the run leg in good position are foolish. Elite ITU guys are in better 10k shape than Webb was before he retired off of training that was not dedicated towards purely running.
On top of his shortcomings in running, Webb is so far behind the top guys in his levels of comfort, expertise and specific fitness in biking and swimming that he can almost certainly never make up that gap in ITU. I say that mostly because he is 31 and the Brownlee bros are not only on another level, they are also way younger. They have a massive head start on him in the sport and he's not getting any younger.
