I am relatively new to running, started training for real on january. Before that i used to jog around, until a friend introduced me to his running group. Then i started doing fartleks and some fast intervals, like 200m, 400m, 600m.
I ran my first 5k race on june and ran 18:12. I was very unexperienced and ran the first km in about 3:10 and after half of the race I died, but i think i could've run under 18:00.
last two and a half months i have been training hard and in two weeks will run my second 5k race.
So today I did a 5 x 1k workout, that my friend said would be a good predictor of what I would be running. He is an experienced runner as he has run 14:30 for 5k so I trust him. But for this I know he is wrong as he said I was a real talent on my way to break 16, and that can't be true, is a question of logic.
I finished the workout in 16:10, resting one minute after each 1000m (just counting the 1000s part). I did about 3:14 for each. So I was wondering if I could run under 17 minutes in two weeks. That's 10 seconds slower for what I averaged today. I know it will be very hard as I really pushed to my limit today to run 16:10 with a total of 4 minutes break, so maybe 10s slower per km with no breaks is too fast?
any advices on how I should run this? I don't wanna feel the same thing of the last race as I nearly died. My friend told me to run 3:15 for the first km and i think he is making fun wanting me to die again.
thanks!
