I keep seeing stores about Ferguson Missouri but I really don't care. I live in Indianapolis, which has a pretty large African American population but the city, to me, seems very segregated. I feel as though African Americans have their own culture and priorities. I do not interact with them at all, other than the routine transactions at a fast food place or wherever they may work. We have no African Americans in our office nor do any live in my immediate neighborhood. The areas of the city where they live feel like a completely different place to me and I don't go there. I really don't care what goes on in these communities as long as it doesn't become exported to my neighborhood. I feel like I should care but I don't.
Odd. I live in Indianapolis as well, and the city was determined to be one of the most racially integrated large cities in the entire country. On a day-to-day basis, I interact with people of many different backgrounds. My neighborhood is very diverse, both racially and income wise. I would not say it is some paradise of racial harmony, but not too segregated.
The suburbs are a different story.
With all that said, all of my roommates or close friends are white. But I did recently date a French woman.
