Smart man.
That is exactly how I feel.
Your dad sounds like an irresponsible sleaze ball. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I suppose.
Yes? Go on

I see no point of living together. It affords no advantage at all, only more laundry, cooking, cleaning and overall irritation.

Agreed, live separately and date exclusively forever if you wish. Or, when ready to have children, take the marriage plunge.
Do not live together unmarried and do not marry unless you plan to have children.
Welcome.
This is horrible advice. Unless you're truly terrified of committed relationships, this has no appeal whatsoever.

fyi- Independent does not equal "truly terrified of committed relationships"
Men who are more averse to commitment are also more likely to be closeted homosexuals.
Did he give a reason? Does he hate your mom? Does he hate you? Does he regret the decision to marry your mother and have you? These are rhetorical questions for which the answer is yes.
There is no problem with marriage if you marry someone compatible. Finding that person is the hard part. Follow these rules:

My mum told me the same thing. Lived with two girlfriends thus far, 1.5 & 4 years, respectively. I see my friends all married up and it's looking at beaten men.
I would get married one day, but she'd have to be cool as hell about it. No effin ceremony; just the JotP and the signed certificate. Spend all the wedding money on a fantastic party and honeymoon.
Never get married. women are the rake. The f- in rake
IMHO, you're probably screwed if you grew up with a dad like that.

The inevitable divorce will be incredibly more expensive than the small savings earned with marriage tax credits, not to mention the $100k spent on the wedding. I'd rather keep the money.
Plus, if your significant other takes a turn for the worse, you can trade her in for a younger model. I call it a win.
Common law marriage occurs in seven years.
Gale Told me the same thing in 1964
Prince's Dad: You gonna get married?
Prince: Yeah..
Prince's Dad: Never get married.

I think it's the reverse or not even true (marriage as a cover). There are plenty of sex-mad men who are like cockerspaniels in heat their entire lives, regardless of their relationship status or circumstance. And some would even call that "normal." I, I am not opining here, just sharing observations of people in dis country dawg
