Hey all. I've got a morality/legality question about the use of a second in a marathon. Bit of background: I ran a marathon last year where I placed second, and the winner (a local hotshot) had someone helping him. They were riding alongside on a bike, handing water/GUs/etc. to their friend. Made a world of difference as I could and should have beaten this guy. I made a complaint to the race director afterward, who basically just shrugged me off and said nothing.
This year I'm running the same marathon in a few months and I'm considering asking a good friend to ride alongside me. Since the race directors clearly don't care about this sort of thing, should I do it? Would you do it? Would you feel like you are cheating? Or would a better option be to have to person ride along/ahead and ensure your supplies were at correct water stations?
