Running Economy Questionnaire

All:

I know there have been a few discussions concerning "Running Economy" on here of late. I have a questionnaire that I plan on using to help clarify what others think and know concerning running economy. It is two pages, but only 15 short questions (with videos!). For the record, there are various definitions of what running economy means, how it should be measured, and its usefulness and most are correct in their own way. Hence, please do not kill the messenger; this questionnaire is only designed to help us all (or for those who need the help).

If you are a coach or an experienced distance runner, your help in submitting this questionnaire would be greatly appreciated. It is completely anonymous and you can email with any questions before, during, or after you fill it out.

Doc, I feel like economy is affected by a variety of factors, but maybe none more than how subconscious the movement pattern has become.

Not sure if you can tell whether someone is thinking by recording their eyes/facial expression.

Or, maybe you could overlay their entire sequence of running on the treadmill and see how much deviation they have. I suspect those with the smallest deviation would have the greatest economy and it would be subconscious. I don't know if that means the movement stems only from the cerebellum or something like that, but you could easily try the latter suggestion with your current video.

Hello there.

I will be leaving the questionnaire open for two more weeks at the most. After that I can begin to reveal the results to those who email me.

Until the material is published, I cannot do any major posting as it would invalidate/de-value the results.
