My long run route takes me along a 4 lane road with a speed limit of 45 and zero shoulder. It's heavy traffic and there's not room for a runner and two cars side by side.
Through this stretch of road I run on the sidewalk. I encounter the occasional walkers but it's wide sidewalk and I hug the edge and there is plenty of room.
The last couple runs I've had two women walking side by side taking up the whole sidewalk and they don't move over (or go single file) when I'm running. Forcing me off the sidewalk into the narrow grass next to the road/cars.
It's been happening more and more lately. How do people deal with this? I really want to just hold my ground and shoulder the woman who refuses to move over. I tried the passive aggressive route last weekend and ran right directly at the woman and she flinched and cowered as I brushed by her. That put a smile on my face.
When I walk with my wife side by side, I always step behind her and go single file when I encounter others (walkers, runners, etc). Seems like the polite thing to do.
