Hello everyone,
Some sweet weeks on here! I need to go hop into bed, so I'm just going to throw this up and comment tomorrow. Please forgive the lack of formatting; I'm a bit pressed for time.
Pfitzinger Plan Week 4/18
Goal: 2:40 at Portland Marathon, October 5
Monday: 10.3k recovery (am), 9.97k recover (pm)
Tuesday: 6k recovery (am), 18k easy-medium (pm) with 10x100m strides. Was frustrated after work and ran the easy-medium a bit too hard, about 3:58/km. Found a sweet new place to do strides, though. It is an Olympic skating ring in the winter, but in the summer it’s just a sweet patch of grass.
Wednesday: 24k medium-long. First 13k at 4:16/km, then 10.6k at 3:57/km. Passed this obnoxiously shirtless dude I see running a lot in the last 4k. It felt great! I worry about my maturity sometimes.
Thursday: 10k recovery (am), 8k recovery (pm)
Friday: 21.1k medium-long. A very fun run–lots of people out and about.
Saturday: 11.4k recovery (am). Ran this with a new training partner. He clocked a 2:38 marathon in April off of 100k a week, and he ran all of it on a treadmill! This makes me worry he might be a serial killer.
Watched Brazil-Chile afterwards. It was like almost having a heart attack for two and a half hours, and I wasn’t even cheering for a particular side. How people who care about a team deeply manage to sit through these things is beyond me.
(Also, I know this won't make me popular around here, but Gaaaaaaaaaaan Belgiëëëëëëë!
Sunday: 32k long. First 15.5 at 4:19/k, then 16k at 3:57k. A beautiful, wet, and windy morning. Managed to eat 8 of the 12 gummy bears I took with me. Will need to work on this!
Watched Holland-Mexico after. Penalty shots are pretty silly if you ask me. About to go try my first ice bath, since I felt a bit creaky.
Total: 151k. Another pretty solid week, though not much speed work in it now that I look at it. Mildly concerned about general inflammation in the legs, but hopeful the ice bath will help. Nervous about next week’s long run, which calls for 32 again, but with the second half at marathon race pace (3:40/km). Gulp!
