As of this weekend, my official track and field season will be over. I'm planning on going to meets over the summer to chase PRs and racing will begin approximately a month from now. How should I approach training until then? Take some time off and ease back into it or just keep running big workouts?
I am a 800/1600 guy
Question: Do you run cross in the fall? If so you might consider cutting off the racing by the end of June and go into base training for XC without a break.
If you're going to continue racing you should run about two weeks of aerobic strength work (800s and 1000s) and tempo intervals (1600 and 2K) then back to speed endurance for mile and 800 training for the rest of your summer season. The aerobic intervals will help you recharge without taking off. There is no reason to take a break if you are going to continue racing.
What meets are in your area during the summer, anyway? There are no meets other than a small all-comers series in our area.
