Yeah I'm sure with a bib number like #752, he's just plain awful! Jordan Whitlock, aka "the bigger tool" ran a 2:43 at Chicago last year...my god that is terrible! What's the percentage of letsrun.com posters that have a PR that fast?
I'm pretty sure it was Boston a few years back where the guys headed off in the Spira shoes and everyone was talking it off as a joke and how ridiculous it was.
The news then hit that apparently one of them had run something like a 62 half the previous month - not amazing but not someone you let take a 2 or 3 minute lead. Thing the elites had been jogging until then in layers as it was a horrible day but they suddenly lost all the clothing and started nailing it when someone told them.
It showed a lot of metal that this guy lead the race. Maybe he thought he could steel it.

Well played, sir/ma'am. Not that most people will get it.
Or care, I suppose.

Why wouldn't most people get it? You did.
He didn't interfere with the race in any way. Dude is also a great runner, not some fat slob. Kinda douchey on his behalf but as long as he doesn't trip somebody whats the big deal.

Yeah he had brass balls to do that. Im glad the problem was ironed out in the end without some copper tackling him or something
Juli Windsor led for the first few miles. That was awesome. Not sure why she isn't coming up in the results though. Bib #25296. I saw her go by at 41.2K.

A woman did the same thing in the women's race.

Because she is hot. We spent 92 secs. behind the crowd. She is really hot.
I never even noticed Seth wold. I thought they were talking about the black guy (number 41). I thought he was the interloper.

Except that's clearly not his pace.

Perhaps the race organizers can tweak the start making it more difficult for the guys who just good enough to catch the lead group and possibly temporarily wreak havoc.
Careful with that. Remember Chicago '08 when Wesley Korir was not seeded as an elite so he started 5 minutes later than the elites with the rest of the general field and he still finished with the 4th overall fastest time (2:13)? And initially they weren't going to award him 4th because he didn't cross the line 4th? Of course, Korir went on to win the Boston Marathon in 2012.

If you don't know that the elite women have a 28 minute head start on the rest of the field, you're an idiot.
If you're trying to make a weird joke about Shalane, you're a bigger idiot.
Yes, you have the right to choose your pace. Like I had the right to half ass it with 4-6 total miles a week at a snails pace. I did that because I thought I wasn't capable of more and came up with excuses like my asthma.
What I told myself was BS. I ran 8 miles in 2 days without an inhaler because i expected more of myself. You live your life like a 4-6m/week runner, you're going to be unhappy for the rest of it. But like you said, that's your right...
Who says he didn't think he could keep the pace? Either way what a boss he is. I don't care if your an elite with multiple all american awards or a 10 minute miler you should be cheering for this guy. The only thing that disappointed me was he did not last a bit long up front as I loved it. Anybody who thinks it was a tool move takes themselves and this sport too seriously.

He himself said he decided to run the first of the race as a speed workout. He never intended to keep that pace for any length of time. He's never come close to running 1:04 for the half. Why in the hell would he think he could run 2:08 for the full marathon? He did it to get his face and Altra's jersey in front of the camera. Which is why he shouldn't be applauded for his shameless self promotion.
From the links about him posted it looks like had he not been injured, Hall could have pulled him to a new PR.
Maybe next year we can get a few dozen sub-elites to charge to the front. See who can lead the longest. We could have a side pool for wagering.

I know Seth Wold and I would like to say that this fits his personality very well. He had some good races right after college on which he now hangs all his running legitimacy. Within the first 10 minutes of any conversation you would find out that he is the Ogden Marathon record holder; I don't know a single person that knows him that he hasn't told that to.
I'm unfortunately Facebook friends with him and had to choke down my vomit all day yesterday as he repeatedly posted links to stories and videos and his own blog posts about how he lead the Boston Marathon. What's really disappointing is all these non-runner/hobbyjogger friends he has keep gushing over how great he is and keep his head ultra-inflated. I can't stand the guy.
