Of course, we can never know for sure ..... but I'm reasonably confident Mo woulda been outkicked by El G and. Lagat in their prime too, on a slow paced 5000m.
Mo did fine .... But he didn't look like he has what's needed to run world record kinda times .... I think Geb coulda dropped his 1500m pr somewhat, if he went for it. I don't see Mo running 2:05.
Still, a great run for 3:28 guy.

How does Kiprotich win Olympic and WC gold and run 2:11, still with a PR of 2:07:20? So weird.
Try to understand why it is so difficult to be consistent in the marathon. A little injury or illness can throw off your training. A little injury or illness can throw you off on race day. My gosh, how often has a woman on here not felt good while having their period. How often do some of us have sleeping problems, or feel like crap on a certain day for no reason. These marathoners are people and go through some of the same life problems as anyone else.

Marathon Man 23 wrote:2. Farah has the best range of any distance runner ever (3:28 and 2:08.21). This amazes me, because it is very difficult to be both fast and have endurance. 3:28 for 1500 shows that Farah is fast-twitch - more so than Bekele. Running 2:08.21 is not slow and is very good for a first time marathoner with a lot os speed
I dunno about that. I mean Geb ran a 3:33i and a 2:03:59. So that's a close call. Geb is five seconds slower in the 1500m(which was indoor) and he's 4:30 faster in the marathon. I think Geb's range is probably better.
5 seconds at 1500m is a long way.

It's easier for the Kenyans when they can supercharge 20 and hope a couple hang on.
When you've only got three options, it's a lot more difficult.
A lot easier for a random to win.

Absolutely. We somethimes forget that it is different Kenyans and Ethiopians winning these races.
Pourquoi?
